Kirishima Higashi Shrine

Kirishima Higashi Shrine

This shrine is located in the Kirishima Mountain Range, where the creation of Japan began.

It is said to have been built during the reign of the 10th Emperor Sujin. Kirishima Shrine in Kagoshima Prefecture was called "Nishi-Kirishima-gu", but it prospered as "Higashi-Kirishima-gu".
The summit of Mt. Takachiho is enshrined in the enclave, and the "Amagahoko" at the summit is enshrined as a treasure of Kirishima Higashi Shrine.
As a ritual performed only by parishioners, there is Harakawa Kagura on the second Saturday in December.

Ame no Sakahoko ( Ama no Sakahoko ) is
located on the top of Takachihomine, the main peak of the Kirishima Mountain Range, and is a shrine treasure of Kirishima Higashi Shrine. At the top of the mountain is the enclave of Kirishima Higashi Shrine.
Tensaka-hoko appears in literature from the Edo period, and is thought to have existed even before that time, but legend has it that the hoko used by Ninigi-no-Mikoto when he descended was placed on Mt. Takachiho. It is said to have been erected upside down on the summit of Mt.
It is said that the name "Kirishima" came from the fact that fog tends to form in this area, and the peaks of the mountains look like islands floating in a sea of clouds. You can feel the scene where the islands were born out of chaos.
